![]() Atmosphere is nervously active and fights are intensive. GZDoom-only arena-shooter with replaced weaponry and lot's of eye-candies. May be Legacy of Suffering worth your attention too. And I wouldn't play Antichrist DOOM with (G)ZDoom at all since it will garble replaced sounds, use PrBOOM or Crispy instead. They are feature-intensive already and something will definitely break in that case. I wouldn't recommend to use mentioned above episodes with gameplay mods like Brutal, though. All of those make different approach to the common goal: revitalize old DOOM. Do you think they did the right thing by keeping. I'd recommend Knee-deep in ZDoom and Antichrist DOOM as well. Squishy and her bonus sisters keep a lot of secrets from their parents in this story. ![]() You, should probably try PlayStation DOOM TC for ZDoom-compatibles instead. And that has rather unpleasant explanation if you read "Masters of DOOM" book. Mostly large, mostly empty, mostly boring levels with low details on the landscape. Well, to my tastes whole last half of the original DOOM II is dull. But over all that time, nobody has been able to figure out one final secret. Time4Tea: Both are a bit dull imo for 'last third' Doom 2 levels. Doom II: Hell on Earth is about to turn 24 years old, which makes it about great-grandparent age in videogame years. Although, if the Brutal Doom author has use other mods without acknowledgment, I would agree that is a bit low.Īre there any alternative mods you would recommend, for someone that wants to add cosmetic features, like more gore, gibs, blood spatters, but without any significant changes to the gameplay/level design? I don't see anything wrong with that, as long as credit is given to the original authors. I mean, I have seen 'composite mods' for other games, where they 'bundle' many mods together to make things easier for users, rather than people having to download and install dozens of individual smaller mods. Ok, I wasn't aware the author is considered to be a jerk. So, there is nothing strange if some 'extras' suddenly appear. ![]() As well, AFAIR, Brutal author is a jerk who mostly put together tons of the mods made by other people. Emulators are re-implemented game engines, but to play, you still need game data (ROMs).Schwertz: Concerning 'commercial content to include in mods' issues, AFAIR, those 'new' levels are actually just old fan-made maps freely available at idgames archives for ages. Putting in a guaranteed secret makes it show 100 so nobody thinks they've missed any secrets. FUN FACT: This was done because in the original Doom Engine, getting 0/0 secrets counted as 0 on the end level screen. Maybe another way to view it is how game consoles exist. This level has one secret and it's the exit room which is marked as a secret, so it's impossible to miss. Alternatively, there are some wads that people created from scratch - new levels using new textures/sounds/music - e.g. ![]() However, Doom1/2 game files (wads) were never released for free. GZDoom, ZDoom, ChocolateDoom, Zandronum, and many others are based on Id's open source release. Eventually, Doom released their engine code as open-source and people made many improved versions - less bugs, higher resolutions, more entities, cross-platform support, etc. After release, people started making their own content (wads) to run on the Doom engine. It might make more sense to think of the games, less like an entity themselves (as they were released), but in 2 pieces:īoth are copyrighted and released together. ![]()
